Susan Shafrir - Embroidery and Mixed Media
I am an English artist now working mostly with mixed media. I studied Fine Art at Stockwell and Goldsmiths Colleges, London University, UK, and at that time I was working mostly in oils. Since then my work has become more abstract and I have been drawn to use recycled and used materials, together with my sketches and compositions. I also coincidentally, rekindled my original love of threads and fabrics and found a totally new way of expression through machine embroidery.
My passion centres around the forces of nature and the urgent desire to preserve its beauty. My work includes paper, plastic, beads and other items such as lace.
My work has been shown in exhibitions in England, California, Germany, Holland, South Africa and Israel, where I have sold successfully. All unglazed work has been sprayed with a dust resistant and UV resistant liquid.
In 2017 I was commissioned by the UNESCO Chair of Bioethics and Hospital Law to create a collection of mixed media artwork to be used by professors worldwide in their teaching of this subject to medical and legal students.
The aim is for this to become a touring exhibition.
All the work displayed here is for sale. For more information and details you can contact me via my email, or via the Contact section, where you can fill in your details and I will get back to you.
